Award winning author Christina Gabbitas has been nominated in the Yorkshire Choice Awards for Inspirational Individual of the Year 2023.
Christina has been busy over the past year working with North Yorkshire Police, Humberside Police, North Lincolnshire Council and Doncaster Council educating children and young people about county lines and the dangers of carrying knives. Christina, who is also an honorary member of the NSPCC council, said: “I’m honoured to have been nominated with so many inspiring and deserving individuals. The work I have been undertaking working with partners is the most rewarding. If we can help just one children from being exploited we will have achieved what we set out to do. Teenagers are being exploited and running county lines who are grooming younger children from the age of nine. It’s paramount that we educate from primary age.” Christina is also founder of Children’s Literature Festivals charity that concentrates on children and families from the most deprived areas in England, including, Hull, Keighley, Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Oldham.
She added: “I don’t hail from a privileged background and while I felt valued by my own parents, I didn’t feel valued by the wider society because of where I lived. This in part motivates me to help children in our communities to feel valued with our free literature festivals and recent national book awards.” To vote for Christina, visit. www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk
